Pine Creek Vault Toilet Approved!
No More Squat Spots, Time for a Proper Pot!
We must raise over $100,000 to bring this vision to life.
After 8 years of relying on seasonal porta-potties, Pine Creek is finally getting permanent toilets. In March 2025, the Bishop Area Climbers Coalition, in partnership with the Access Fund, secured approval to install a vault toilet at Scheelite Canyon (aka Pratt’s Crack).
Current Sanitation Solution: Porta-Potties

Until a permanent vault toilet is installed, BACC remains committed to providing seasonal (May-Oct) porta-potties at Pine Creek—one of the only other responsible alternatives to packing out your waste with a WAG bag.
These units are not provided by any public agency—they’re entirely funded and maintained by the Bishop Area Climbers Coalition, with support from the climbing community. This service protects the canyon’s environment, water quality, and visitor experience.
Since 2016, two porta-potties with weekly service (May–October) were made possible by a generous private donation. In 2024, due to limited resources, BACC scaled back to one unit with weekly service. Thanks to a grant from the Access Fund, we’re able to continue offering this critical service through the 2025 summer season.
Please do your part:
Use the porta-potty when it’s available, or pack out your waste with a WAG bag. These are the only two sustainable sanitation options until the permanent vault toilet is in place.
Why A Vault Toilet Matters:
Our signature stickers!
✔ This is the only major drainage in the Inyo National Forest without a toilet
✔ Supports year-round climbing and recreation.
✔ Diverts human waste from the crag and creek, keeping them clean and healthy.

Where Will this Vault Toilet Go?
The vault toilet will be located at the Scheelite Canyon (Pratt’s Crack)—a high-traffic area where a permanent facility is most needed. It will be close to the road, similar to the photo to the right, a generated image of what it could look like!
Please note: this is an approximate size & location of the vault toilet.
This project is a vital investment in the future of climbing access and environmental responsibility in the Eastern Sierra. Together, we can ensure Pine Creek remains clean, accessible, and sustainable for years to come.
