This is Our Squad
MIKE COLLINS, PRESIDENT
Mike Collins moved to Bishop from North Carolina in 2007. He quickly realized that the reliable sunshine, big boulders and even bigger mountains are pretty much the best thing going. He plans to live out the rest of his days in this wonderful little community. When not studying the BACC budget, Mike likes walking the dog, drinking coffee and jumping in cold lakes.
VIKKI GLINSKII, VICE PRESIDENT
Before moving to Bishop permanently in 2021, Vikki spent 8 years on the road with her partner, Spenser, and was often seen holding a camera for their production company, The RV Project. Beyond capturing images, her experience in the outdoor industry includes co-founding the Joe’s Valley Fest in 2015 (where she still serves as a board member), as well as coordinating photography as Head Photographer for the Flash Foxy Fest (2016 to 2023). Vikki’s work experience outside of the outdoor industry has been predominantly in healthcare, working in organ donation as an Organ Allocation Coordinator for 14 years. Having wrapped up a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) degree as of spring 2023, Vikki is looking forward to using some of her newfound free time to work with the rest of the BACC board, its partners, and our community members to support the community and climbing areas of Bishop.
JOHN BOWEN, SECRETARY
John Bowen is originally from the east coast. In 2018, he moved to Bishop from Chicago, where he went to college studying math and physics. He came to Bishop for the mountains and year-round climbing access. What he loves most about town is the tight-knit climbing community and running into friends out at the crag and in-town. When not working or climbing, he likes playing guitar, trail running, or cycling.
SAVANNA DEGER, SOCIAL MEDIA DIRECTOR
Growing up in Yosemite, Savanna understood the interdependent relationship between outdoor recreation and environmental stewardship. Naturally, this led her to work as a ranger in Yosemite, the Inyo National Forest, and a Bishop Climbing Ranger. As the Communications Director, Savanna hopes to get important messages and information to local and visiting climbers to help those make responsible decisions while enjoying this amazing landscape. When not creating social media content, you can find Savanna birding, identifying plants, clipping bolts, and scrambling up backcountry mountains.
JANE HSU, DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR & TREASURER
Bringing 25 years of experience in nonprofit arts organization leadership, Jane is committed to building community and partnerships. Her work in public engagement started in art museums and pivoted in 2020 as an arts consultant where she helps organizations with leadership strategy, development and fundraising. Jane’s passion for altitude and granite drew her as a visitor to the East Sierras, and made the move from New York City to Bishop during the epic winter of 2023. A major goal as Development Director will be to expand BACC’s impact and accessibility with youth and diverse communities. Outside of BACC, you can find Jane hanging with her pug around town or recreating foods from her hometown.
BRAYDEN DOKKESTUL, COMMUNITY DIRECTOR
Brayden is from Wisconsin and moved to California after college where he studied Geoscience. He has a passion for using climbing to create a community that is both inclusive and supportive to any climber. This has resulted in his starting of a weekly social event prior to joining the board called the Moderate Bishop Bouldering Meet Up. As Community Director, this same passion will be applied to help bring people together to support the Bishop area climbing community and its relationship with the community as a whole. When not climbing, he enjoys a short trail run, backpacking, and fly fishing.
KATHERINE VANDERFORD, MARKETING & COMMUNICATION DIRECTOR
Growing up In California, Katherine began her climbing journey in Bishop, CA, in 2010. Over the past decade, she’s lived in climbing hotspots like Chattanooga, TN, and Salt Lake City, UT, before returning to her beloved Bishop for good in 2023. Along the way, she’s contributed to incredible organizations such as Flash Foxy, Memphis Rox, the Joe’s Valley Festival, and Color the Crag.
If you see her out at the crag she’s probably snacking on a gluten-free peanut butter and jelly waffle, soaking up the sun, and hanging out with her deaf heeler, Ripley (though she’s always missing her cats at home).
MELISSA BOYD, SPECIAL PROJECTS DIRECTOR
Melissa first moved to the Eastern Sierra in 2014 to work for the Mono Lake Committee and spend her free time exploring the high country. After a few years, she left to attend graduate school in Flagstaff but soon returned to the Eastern Sierra, drawn back by its unmatched views and wild landscapes. Melissa has spent her career studying climate change impacts on forests, working with land managers, and working to enhance ecosystem resilience to stressors like drought and wildfire.
As Special Projects Director, Melissa brings her background to help plan and advance projects that benefit both the natural environment and the climbing community. Outside of the day to day, Melissa enjoys hiking, hanging out with her two dachshunds, and swimming in alpine lakes.
